Libraries shouldn't depend on next year's budget

Most public libraries need new money every year just to stay online. When a budget is cut, collections go dark. Nest Egg Commons is a circular-economy funding model: a library is funded once at launch, then keeps running on decentralized computing, without yearly appropriations. Membership donations are invested in building better common-good software, which every library then shares.

  • Each new budget cycle puts digital collections at risk.
  • Grants and subsidies pay the same running costs again and again.
  • There is no standard model yet for funding a library once and keeping it open for good.

What problem are we solving?

01

Municipal & National Libraries

Need their digital library to stay open when the budget is cut.

02

Library Consortia

Need one shared funding model instead of each member paying its own running costs, as on worldbibliotech.net.

03

Grant-Making Foundations

Need to fund a library once and see lasting impact, not pay its running costs every year.

04

Small & Under-Resourced Libraries

Need to go online without taking on running costs they can't afford.

Common money, common software, common good.
